3.1.2.1.1. Compression check
THE GENERAL DATA

In case of reduction of capacity of the engine which is not defect of ignition or fuel system, compression check can define an engine condition. If check is carried out regularly, it is possible to define defect which will be shown in the near future.

The engine should be heated-up to working temperature, oil level should correspond to norm, the accumulator should be completely charged. The help of the assistant also is required.

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. On engines with system of injection of fuel remove the fuse of the fuel pump from a box with fuses. Now start the engine and allow to it to work to a stop.
2. Disconnect ignition system, separating многовыводной a socket from the ignition coil. Unscrew all spark plugs.
3. Screw in a tip компрессометра in an aperture of a spark plug of the cylinder №1.
4. The assistant should press against the stop a pedal of an accelerator and turn the engine a starter within several seconds, thus it is necessary to observe of indications компрессометра. Pressure will grow quickly enough in the serviceable engine. Low pressure upon the first piston stroke, accompanied by gradually increasing pressure upon the subsequent courses, specifies in the worn out piston rings. Low pressure upon the first course which does not raise further, specifies in leaky valves or the punched lining of a head of the block of cylinders. Adjournment on an underside of plates of valves can promote low pressure also. Make record of the high pressure, then repeat procedure for the remained cylinders.
5. Because of a variety компрессометров and speeds of rotation of a cranked shaft of the engine a starter the data often differs at compression check. For this reason actual pressure of compression are not specified. However the most important factor is that pressure should be identical in all cylinders.
6. Add in cylinders insignificant quantity of engine oil (approximately 20 sm3) through apertures for a spark plug and repeat test.
7. If there is a pressure increase after oil is added, it means that piston rings are worn out. If pressure does not increase, available leak in valves or a lining of a head of the block of cylinders. Leak of valves can be caused the burnt saddles or plates of valves or погнутыми valves.
8. If two adjacent cylinders have equally low pressure, it is the most probable that the lining of a head of the block of cylinders has burnt through between them. Occurrence of a cooling liquid in chambers of combustion or on щупе for measurement of level of engine oil confirms this defect.
9. If pressure in one cylinder approximately for 20 percent more low, than in other, and the engine has slightly rough mode of idling, the worn out cam on distributive to a shaft can be the reason of it.
10. After check establish spark plugs and repeatedly connect high-voltage wires and the ignition coil. Establish the fuse of the fuel pump in a box with fuses.
